What I Do: I’ve worked in the Books department for over 30 years and am currently responsible for acquiring and editing books across all franchises, with a focus on home building, design, and woodworking.
The content curation role is a more recent responsibility, and in this position I work across all brands and brand platforms to identify and create new products from existing (and potentially new) book and magazine/digital content.
In a more light-hearted vein, I make regular guest appearances on Fine Gardening’s Let’s Argue About Plants podcast, where the editors like to make fun of me for being English.
Interesting Fact About Me: In earlier lives before Taunton, I worked as a house painter (church steeples a specialty), crossword puzzle editor, educational test compiler, and apple picker. Somehow, I found my way into publishing in 1990. Along the way, I was granted an honorary membership in the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
What I’m Passionate About: Luton Town Football Club, a professional football (soccer) team in southern England. I saw my first match with my father and grandfather on November 4, 1961, and have been following their fortunes (and misfortunes) passionately for the past 60 years.
What I Like About Working for Taunton: I’d have to say the quality of the work we produce. Over the years we’ve published books that have made a difference in the lives of builders, woodworkers, gardeners, sewers, and passionate hobbyists and homeowners. That makes it all worthwhile. As does the spirit of collaboration that exists within the Taunton community. And the fact that it’s the sort of place where you can work without your shoes on, if you get my drift.
