Since that day in 1975, The Taunton Press has evolved into a 21st-century media company with category-leading brands that inspire and inform over 14 million passionate makers.

We’re known for our four iconic magazines – Fine Woodworking, Fine Homebuilding, Fine Gardening, and Threads and our related line of books. Our in-person events, plus videos and podcasts that reach an ever-growing community of enthusiasts. We’re constantly meeting the demands of the enthusiasts we serve.

Our Mission

The Taunton Press is in the business of providing high-quality, high-value information to special-interest enthusiasts – people who have made a commitment in time and/or space to learning about and practicing their craft and express their creative imaginations. Our four fields of focus are: woodworking, home building, gardening, and garment sewing.

Profit is our measure, not our motive. If we all do our jobs well, we’ll be profitable and generate the capital to try new ideas and create new things. We grow not only because we keep creating new things of some value to society, but because if we don’t, we’ll stagnate. A growing workplace in one that vital and creative people find challenging, rewarding and fun.

We are a family-owned business and we treat our fellow employees, customers and suppliers as we would like to be treated ourselves, and we do it in a friendly, trusting and open manner that brings out the best in people. We are a risk-taking, questioning company that continually challenges accepted values, methods and goals, while always searching for innovative ways to conduct our business. Taunton remains a family business built on the core values of Integrity, Teamwork, Excellence, Independent Thinking, and Creativity – the values on which Paul and Jan Roman founded our company.

Diversity Enriches our Endeavors

The Taunton Press, guided by staff-developed core values, provides high-quality, valuable information for special-interest communities. Our content advances knowledge and appreciation of hands-on pursuits in gardening, home building and remodeling, sewing, and woodworking. We believe diversity is essential to our company culture, the content we create, and the communities we serve and inform. We are committed to building a more inclusive workforce and seeking out and presenting diverse voices in our content and products.

We treat others fairly, honestly, and with respect. We always strive to act in ways that are consistent with all our values.

We believe diversity enriches our endeavors and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace. We seek diverse voices to share through our content channels, and foster communities of interest to which everyone is welcome.

We believe that by working collaboratively we can combine our talents and experiences to create better products and services than we can by working alone.

We strive for excellence in the products we make and the services we provide. But we keep the efforts we expend in balance with our customers’ sense of value.

Through our products, we teach our customers fundamental techniques and principles that empower them to create, improvise, and get better at the activities they pursue. In the same way, we value, honor, and promote creativity in our work at Taunton.

We expect curiosity and value the desire and ability to question the status quo — not for the sake of being contrary, but because independent thinking can lead to better ways to serve our customers and conduct our business. Independent thinking enables us to continually improve our products and the processes we use to make and market them.
