Embellishments: Going in Circles -- Fabric Yo-yos
This traditional quilting detail is sassy and modern as a decorative garment trim
by Anna Mazur

Fabric yo-yos are a traditional quilter's detail that have made their way onto the runways and into the ready-to-wear markets. These gathered, circular fabric details are a fun decorative trim for anything from necklines and cuffs on tops and blouses, to arm holes, waistlines, and hemlines on dresses. They can even be used for all-over designs. Yo-yos are easy to make and perfect for embellishing a garment to your heart's content. In this article, Anna Mazur, fashionista and Threads contributing editor, explains how to make yo-yos, step by step. You'll learn fabrics work best and how to vary the size of the yo-yos and combine them for further interest. You'll also find out how yo-yos can be made into other shapes, such as asymmetrical forms, ovals, and shell forms.
