ARTICLE PREVIEW from Threads December 2006/January 2007 (#128)
Squares of silk chiffon turn a plailn skirt into one that's made for dancing by Jennifer Sauer Senior editor Jennifer Sauer recently saw a cocktail dress at White House/Black Market, and fell in love with the deconstructed embellishment on its skirt. The chiffon panel sported raw-edge chiffon diamonds, stitched in vertical columns down the dress. The stitching is only down the center of the diamonds, so the fabric pieces flutter and move like soft fins (which makes dancing so much fun!). In this column, she shows readers how to cut the diamonds/squares on the bias, how to gradually increase the size of the squares as you descend the skirt, for maximum impact, and how to sew on the squares.
