Foolproof Fly Zipper
It's time (finally) to say farewell to bumpy zipper bottoms
by Judy Barlup

Judy Barlup, educator and custom clothier, is well known for her innovative and foolproof sewing techniques. In this article, she shares her unique way of creating a perfectly flat fly-front zipper that rivals, even surpasses, ready-to-wear results. Instead of using the traditional zipper foot, Judy has found that a regular ol' presser foot holds the fabric in place and controls the thread tension. To stitch close to the zipper, she just uses the machine's leftmost needle position. Judy also provides instructions for making a simple, reusable topstitching template that helps keep the line of stitching on the straight-and-narrow.
