Two Vintage Twists on One Classic Skirt
Turn a straight-skirt pattern into period-inspired designs
by Heather Claus

Long-time Threads contributor Heather Claus teaches sewing, patternmaking, and design on her Web site mysewingclasses.com. She's got a knack for isolating wonderful details from both vintage and contemporary designer garments, and here she shares three of those with Threads readers. Each of the details is applied to a basic, straight skirt pattern, yielding stylish, unique effects that are flattering on a wide range of figures. Heather shows how to adapt the pattern to create the designs and provides sewing tips for assembling the skirts.
