Take a Fresh Look at Patchwork
If the term "patchwork" evokes a rustic bed quilt, these designers will change your mind
by Jennifer Sauer

If the term "patchwork" brings to mind a rustic bed quilt, you're in for a visual treat. Inspired by the mixing of fabrics and textures in recent runway garments, we sought out two talented designers and asked them to show Threads readers how to successfully mix prints and textures in a garment. New Threads contributor Marla Duran, a designer from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and of Bravo's Project Runway fame, describes her style as "playful classics with a twist." She is inspired by vintage garments and shows us how to pair fabrics for a charming, retro effect. Also new to the Threads family, Elizabeth Wilson, owner of Asiatica (a successful clothing company based in Kansas) is inspired by and crafts her garments with small pieces of sumptuous Japanese fabrics. She tells us to start with a limited color palette to create an understated, elegant, artful look.
