Pintucks Go Modern
Venture beyond the straight-and-narrow with these architectural details
by Paddye Mann

If you think pintucks belong only on heirloom or vintage garments, think again. These stitched-down tucks of fabric are popping up on runways from Paris to New York, but they certainly aren't our mothers', or grandmothers', embellishments. Paddye Mann, frequent Threads author and acclaimed Canadian designer, shows us how to shape and style all sorts of garments with pintucking. She provides loads of design ideas, shows us how to adjust patterns to accommodate tucks, and demonstrates how to create different sizes and styles of straight tucks, how to sew superfancy diamond pintucking, and how to use tucks to conceal a dart.
