Fix Your Patterns Before You Sew
To avoid disasters, solve errors at the tissue stage
by Judy Barlup

Judy Barlup, an expert in "pattern engineering," asserts that many sewing disasters start with drafting inaccuracies within the pattern. To avoid problems, she advocates proofreading patterns, i.e., checking them for errors before cutting into the fabric. Judy demonstrates the process of checking for seamlines that match and intersect smoothly, correctly drafted facings, proper amounts of ease where needed, and the position of notches and other markings, and she finishes up by showing how to correct any errors.
