Ah Ha! Pattern Principles
Shedding light on the formulas of patternmaking and modification
by Susan Lazear

While teaching pattern drafting at San Diego Community College and working with her pattern drafting company Cochenille, Susan Lazear noticed universal truisms encompassed in various aspects of pattern drafting. From these, she developed a number of pattern principles for drafting or modifying patterns. These nuggets of information shed new light on the formulas of pattern making and include principles for shoulder points, neckline proportions, grainlines, joining corners, A-line or flared patterns, darts, shoulder slopes, armhole and sleeve cap proportions, side seams, and sleeve manipulations.
