Exploring Design: Inspired by Threads Fashion Challenge 2003

This year's finalists show us just how closely they've been reading their issues of Threads. Take a look at their inspired creations.

Once again, Threads editors punctuated their summer and fall by judging and presenting the 4th annual Inspired by Threads fashion challenge. As in years past, we engaged in a heated debate as we selected finalists from the more than 100 entries we received (each inspired by something in issues #103 to #108), and yet more debate when we were able to view the actual garments our 22 finalists sent in. We managed to agree upon a selection of five winners from the lot, and announced them at a fashion show held at the American Sewing Expo in Novi, Michigan, last September (www.americansewingexpo.com). Each entry demonstrated a high level of technical skill, and there were many design surprises as well.
