An Online Extra to Threads magazine
This Season's Patterns Offer Something for Everybody
Even if your figure isn't model-perfect, there are lots of fashionable options for you
by Carol Fresia
The latest crop of sewing patterns has been released by both large pattern companies and small designers, with many up-to-the-minute styles as well as classics. (For our semi-annual review of the best, along with a survey of this season's fashion trends, look for Patricia Moyes's "Best Bests in Fall/Winter Patterns," in the December 2003/January 2004 issue of Threads, #110.) In conjunction with the magazine feature, contributing editor Barbara Emodi assures us here, online, that no matter what our body shape, we can sew fashionable, flattering clothes if we carefully select our patterns.
In "Pick Patterns That Fit Your Figure" (Threads #109), Barbara explained how to pick patterns that mirror your body shape, so that you'll have fewer fitting challenges when you sew. Here, she surveys the patterns reviewed in the magazine and comments on which figure type each is best suited for. Her comments should help answer the question "I wonder if that will work on my body?" enabling you choose a pattern that echoes your silhouette and thus end up with a garment that fits and flatters with minimal alteration.
