Adrena Johnson-Telfair's inspiration: "I saw nipped waists, lace edges and inserts, tucks everywhere, braids, and beads"

Ensemble Lapel detail
A shapely jacket of linen, with a contrasting, pintucked collar and slot seams echoes the lines of early 20th-century fashion (jacket: author's design; skirt: Vogue 9726, discontinued).


Picnic outfit Pant detail
Bag
Dressing down for the picnic means removing the jacket to reveal a sprigged, sleeveless top, and changing from the skirt to cropped pants with a sheer panel of organza at the hem. Delicate machine embroidery, hand-embellished with beads and crystals, repeats the floral motif of the blouse (blouse and pants: author's design). An unstructured, crazy-quilted bag with couched embellishment completes Adrena's ensemble.
