Threads Denim Challenge Finalists
Members of the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers accepted our challenge to turn denim into dynamite design. Have a look at a slideshow of fabulous entries.
by Judy Neukam
Last summer, Threads invited the members of the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers (PACC) to take on the task of creating a garment or ensemble made of denim. Any denim would do, as long as it constituted at least 75 percent of the outfit, and the outfit had to include a distinctive pocket. PACC members are renowned for their creativity, so we expected a pretty interesting variety of entries. We were not disappointed: The more than 70 garments submitted ranged from tuxedos to wedding gowns, with denim "survival" coats and metallic pantsuits in between.
The winners of the competition, which was judged by the Threads editors, were announced at a fashion show held during PACC's annual conference in Chicago, on May 5, 2002. Take a peek at winning and finalist garments in our slideshow. And look for detailed photos of the winning garments in the December 2002/January 2003 issue of Threads (#104).
To find out about next year's challenge and to learn about the Professional Association of Custom Clothiers, visit the PACC Web site, www.paccprofessionals.org. We can hardly wait to see what PACC members have in store for us in 2003, when they'll answer our Reversible Garment Challenge.
