GARMENT CONSTRUCTION TIP
Slip Basting by Machine

Slip basting, usually done by hand, enables you to match patterned fabric (such as plaids and stripes) across a seam. Save time using this machine variation of slip basting.

1. Set your machine for a long, wide zigzag. Fold under one seam allowance along the seamline. Position the folded edge along the seamline of the corresponding piece, and stitch, making sure the needle catches a small "bite" of fold as it swings to the left.

2. Unfold the folded edge and sew the seam as usual.
