DESIGN AND EMBELLISHMENT TIP
Use Fleece Cords to Embellish Lapped Seams

For a decorative lapped seam, sew a cord to the raw edge of each seam allowance, then overlap the seam allowances so that the seamlines are aligned and sew the pieces together. Here's what you do:

First make the cord:
Cut narrow strips of fleece across the width of the fabric and stretch them from end to end -- they'll curl up to simulate a cord trim. Cut the strips 1/4 to 3/8 inch wide, depending on the weight of your fleece.

To prepare the lapped seam:
Cut half the seam allowance width off each piece. Sew the cord to the raw edge of each allowance by zigzagging over it with matching or contrasting thread.

Lap the pieces and sew the seam:
With both pieces right side up, overlap the seam allowances, aligning the seamlines, and straight-stitch in ditch of each cord seam through all layers. Or for greater strength, stitch along the fabric edge next to the cord.
