Design Confidently, Live Comfortably
Inspired House Issue #9, Mar/Apr 2005
| A Change of Space By switching rooms and recycling vintage elements, one couple transforms their kitchen on a tight budget by Liz Strianese The tiny kitchen at the back of Liz and Tom Strianese's Victorian fixer-upper had an awkward layout and was crammed with old appliances that blocked doors and windows. They were at a loss until a friend suggested that they simply switch the kitchen with the adjacent (and larger) dining room. The idea worked brilliantly. Liz and Tom now have a modern cooking space that suits the old house and cost a fraction of what it should have -- thanks to a lot of elbow grease and some shrewd bargain hunting. Luckily, they were happy to share the design process and plenty of money-saving tips. |
