Combining kitchen, dining, and living areas into one large room is becoming more popular, in new homes and remodels. But without walls to define the rooms, people often struggle with how to create a comfortable and intimate place for dining. We asked five architects for their solutions to the dining area dilemma. The fixes are as simple as lighting and floor coverings and as complex as building half-walls.
