Bosch Improves Dust Collection on Random-Orbit Sanders

Unique microfilter keeps fine dust out of the air

by Tom Begnal

Random-orbit sanders generate a lot of dust. In an effort to keep more of that dust contained, Bosch Power Tools has introduced a new and improved dust-collection canister on two of their 5-in. random-orbit sanders; the single-speed (12,000 rpm) model 1295D and the variable-speed (7,000 to 12,000 rpm) model 1295DVS.

The canister has a unique pleated paper filter inside. Bosch calls it a "microfilter." According to Bosch, this microfilter "traps more dust, including particles as small as 0.25 microns." For those needing to put that number in perspective, it's equal to a piece of dust 60 times smaller than a human hair.

Both models have a soft-grip top and a 2.2-amp motor. The 1295D sells for $69; the 1295DVS for $85. For more information contact Bosch at (877) 267-2499; www.boschtools.com.
