NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER. Entries for this “Furniture Build-Off” Contest (the “Contest”) will be accepted during the period beginning at 12:01 a.m. ET on November 1, 2007 and ending at 11:59 p.m. ET on April 30, 2008 (the “Contest Entry Period”). All entries must be received during the Contest Entry Period. The Contest is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada (except Quebec), who are at least 16 years old. Contest void in Quebec, Puerto Rico and anywhere else where prohibited.
Participants who are under the age of majority in their state or province must have permission from parent or legal guardian to enter. Parents and/or legal guardians providing permission agree (i) to supervise the participant to ensure that all woodworking tools are used properly and in a safe manner, and (ii) to be bound by these rules and regulations on the participant’s behalf.
TO ENTER: Participants must individually complete a woodworking project (appropriate supervision excepted), which must originate from a 10 ft. (3.05 m) by 10 in. (25.40 cm) by 2 in. (5.08 cm) maple board or an equivalent amount (17 board feet). All wood, even inlay, must be from original stock. The maple can be hard or soft, figured or not. Both traditional and original designs are acceptable. Metal parts are confined to hardware only. Finished pieces may be stained or dyed.
After completion of their projects, participants must enter their projects at www.finewoodworking.com/buildoff (the “Website”). At the Website, participants will be required to complete the online entry form, their name, birthday, complete address, daytime phone number, e-mail address, enter a brief description of the project (1,000 character limit), attach three images of the finished project (top view, side view, and front view), and submit the completed online entry form. All entries become the property of the Sponsors (hereinafter defined) and will not be returned. Entries are limited to one per address or household.
All Participants must comply with these Official Rules. The Website is governed by the Taunton Press Privacy Policy, which is available at the Website.
All entries will be reviewed before being published or judged; however, such review does not relieve participants from the responsibility of complying with these Official Rules. Entries that do not comply with these Official Rules as determined by the Sponsors will be disqualified and will not be published or considered for the Semi-Finalist Gallery (hereinafter defined) and/or any prizes. Sponsors make the final determination as to which entries are eligible to take part in the Contest and be considered for the Semi-Finalist Gallery and/or any prizes. From time to time during the Contest Entry Period, Sponsors may, in their sole discretion, choose to feature some of the submitted projects on the Website and/or the DELTA | PORTER-CABLE website. Being featured on the Website and/or on the DELTA | PORTER-CABLE website is unrelated to the Judging Criteria (hereinafter defined) and in no way reflects the possibility of the entry being selected for the Semi-Finalist Gallery.
Sponsors are not responsible for unavailable networks, failed server or other connections, miscommunications, interrupted, misrouted or scrambled transmissions or other errors or problems of any kind whether mechanical, human, electronic or otherwise. The Sponsors assume no responsibility for lost, stolen, delayed, damaged or misdirected entries or for any failure of the Website during the contest period, for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail entry to be received by Sponsors due to technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, of any combination thereof including any injury or damage to a participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material related to the contest. Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel or suspend the Contest should a virus, bug or other cause beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsors corrupt the security or proper administration of the contest. Any attempt to deliberately damage any website or to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil laws, and should such an attempt be made, Sponsors reserve the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law, including criminal prosecution. Entries are subject to verification and will be declared invalid if they are illegible, forged, falsified, altered or tampered with in any way. WINNING: Judging Criteria. Among all qualified entries received, the judging organization (the “Judges”) shall select the top twenty four (24) entries based on the criteria listed below on or about May 1, 2008.
Entries shall be judged subjectively as follows:
a. Quality of Design 60%
b. Craftsmanship 40%
The top twenty four (24) entries selected by the Judges shall be the “Semi-Finalists” and will have their projects displayed on the Website (the “Semi-Finalist Gallery”) where consumers may cast their votes (see Consumer Voting paragraph below). All decisions by the Judges shall be final and binding. It is the sole decision of the Judges to determine which entries will be included in the Semi-Finalist Gallery.
Consumer Voting: The twenty four (24) Semi-Finalist projects chosen by the Judges will be uploaded to the Semi-Finalist Gallery on the Fine Woodworking Website. Based on the Judging Criteria, consumers will be allowed to vote on their favorite piece to choose the winners of the Contest. The voting will take place over four rounds during the time period commencing June 2, 2008 and ending August 1, 2008 (the “Consumer Voting Period”). The voting portion of this Contest is open to consumers who are 16 years of age or older at the time of voting and have a valid e-mail address. There is a limit of one (1) vote per consumer per e-mail address per round during the Consumer Voting Period. The first round of voting will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET on June 2, 2008 and end at 1:00 p.m. ET on June 16, 2008. The number of votes each Semi-Finalist receives will be tallied and the twelve (12) Semi-Finalists who receive the most votes will advance to the second round of voting. The second round of voting will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET on June 17, 2008 and end at 1:00 p.m. ET on June 30, 2008. The number of votes each Semi-Finalist receives will be tallied and the six (6) Semi-Finalists who receive the most votes will advance to the third round of voting. The third round of voting will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET on July 1, 2008 and end at 1:00 p.m. ET on July 14, 2008. The number of votes each Semi-Finalist receives will be tallied and the three (3) Semi-Finalists who receive the most votes will be deemed the “Finalists” and advance to the fourth and final round of voting. The fourth and final round of voting will begin at 10:00 a.m. ET on July 15, 2008 and end at 1:00 p.m. ET on August 1, 2008. The number of votes each Finalist receives will be tallied and the Finalist who receives the most votes will be awarded the First Prize. The Finalist who receives the second highest number of votes will be awarded Second Prize and the Finalist with the fewest votes will be awarded Third Prize. Any ties shall be decided by the Judges. Winners will be announced on the Website on or about August 22, 2008.
There will be one First Prize winner, one Second Prize winner and one Third Prize winner. No more than the advertised number of prizes will be awarded. Winners will be notified within 14 days of selection by telephone, mail or email. One prize per person, household, or family.
CLAIMING PRIZES: Each winner must sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release within thirty (30) days of notification, or his or her prize may be forfeited (except where prohibited by law). Prizes will be delivered to each winner’s residence within thirty (30) days of receiving the Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release. If a prize is won by a participant that has not reached the age of majority within his or her state or providence of residence (i) his or her parent or legal guardian must complete, sign and return on behalf of the participant the Affidavit of Eligibility, Liability/Publicity Release, and all other required documents within (30) days, or his or her prize may be forfeited, and (ii) the prize will be awarded in the minor’s name to his or her parent or legal guardian. Winners will also be required to provide proof of age.
