Porter-Cable's 3-in. by 21-in. belt sander has a transverse motor and good sanding capability. Its belt tracking is very good, but the model tested was finicky to dial in. The stamped steel lever that releases the front roller to allow for changing belts had a sharp, little burr on the model tested.
Control is skittish, and the manufacturer offers no accessories.
