Editor's Review: New Waffle-Head Hammer Design

Douglas Tool has a new crop of wooden-handled framing hammers with some interesting features. Among them is a solid head-to-handle connection. The wide reinforced tongue on the hammer's head slips into a perfectly mated groove on the handle, a weak spot for ordinary wooden-handled hammers. The hammers range in size from 18 oz. to 23 oz., with handles from 14 in. to 16 in. long. Notable on these hammers is the inverted waffle design on the head, which Douglas says lasts longer than traditional designs.

Douglas Tool also offers 18 and 20-oz. finish hammers, as well as a 15-oz. trim hammer. All six of Douglas's hammers have a nail puller on the side of the head, which affords greater leverage, and the framing and finish nailers have a magnetic nail holder on top of the head for starting nails.
