Houses 2009: Call for Entries
Would you like to see your project in next year’s issue of Houses? We’re already on the lookout for homes that showcase craftsmanship, energy efficiency, and smart design. From cozy cottages to urban lofts, from seaside getaways to starter homes on a budget, we want to hear about your house. This issue is not limited to just new homes. We’re eager to see remodels that breathe new life into tired old houses (be sure to take “before” photos).
To get on board, just send us a selection of decent color photos (they don't have to be professional quality) and a brief letter explaining why your project should appear in Houses. We’ll take it from there.
The deadline for submissions to Houses 2009 is July 7, 2008.
To reply by postal mail, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with sufficient capacity and postage for
your materials and send to:

Advice on submiting an article to Houses
We get a lot of submissions for our Houses issue, and we study every one of them. But some submissions are much easier to evaluate than others, and thereby gain an edge. Here's what you can do to ensure that your entry gets the most editor eyeball time. If you're sending multiple projects, do this for each one.
- Put the materials in an 8-1/2-in. x 11-in. folder.
- Include a typed cover letter that describes the project, and what our readers can learn from it that they can apply to their own situations.
- Send a simple floor plan of the project, and label the parts that are most important to the story.
- Make photos as large as possible. One big photo per page is best, and no more than two or three per page.
- If you're submitting a remodeled house project and you've got "before" photos, include copies of them as well.
- Please don't send photos by email or CD. They quickly clog the system.
- If the project contains a particular material, structural or design detail that you think might be right for one of our Feedback features, please note them in your submission.
Following these guidelines doesn't guarantee getting into the next issue of Houses, but it will improve the odds. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for considering Fine Homebuilding as a worthy forum for presenting your work.
