Professional tool technician Tom Peck happens to be replacing the trigger switch and cord on a HD77 Skil Saw, but the technique he uses could apply to just about any circular saw you own. First -- and most obviously -- unplug the saw for safety. Then, have T-20 and T-30 bits on hand to disassemble the handle. Other tips worth the price of admission: Be sure your connectors are clean, and if not, replace them. Make your connections outside the saw for easy access, and always hook your ground connection to the metal part of the chassis.
Watch Tom give the same saw a life-extending tune-up. And for more information on circular saw maintenance, read John Ross's Circular-saw repair.
