Flashing a Window's Head Casing

When installing mechanically-flanged windows, builder Mike Guertin of Rhode Island likes to take a little extra time and effort to create a tight seal between the windows, housewrap and flashing tape. Then, before adding the head casing to a window, he uses a sandwich of metal cap flashing, spacers, more flashing tape and a piece of decorative copper to ensure water doesn't find its way behind this trim element.
