I like the more intense color of 'May Night' better, but Caradonna does the job: long-lasting color where it's sunny and dry. It's the blue in my red-white-and-blue garden, and it's quite a contrast by the brown-eyed susans, too!

This is my favorite cultivar of Salvia nemerosa. I find that the purple stems add interest where "May Night" and "East Friesland" fall short. "Caradonna" is a vigorous salvia that will rebloom with sheering if placed in full sun. It's not picky about soil and once established is drought tolerant. Gorgeous!

I cut it back in July to get another round of late-summer blooms.
