This cultivar of our East Coast native is one of the few penstemons adaptable to wet winters and hot, humid summers. 'Husker Red' shines with ruby-toned leaves. Late spring and early summer brings sturdy 3-foot-high stems adorned by panicles of white blooms that entice bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies, but not deer or rabbits. In autumn and winter, songbirds feed on the seed. 'Husker Red' is stunning grown in groups.

Though relatively pest-free, 'Crimson Curls' heuchera needs constant moisture to look its best. The white flowers contrast nicely with the ruby-colored foliage that deepens in direct sun, and the late-spring flowering repeats by late summer if deadheaded. Due to its constant-moisture requirement, don't grow 'Crimson Curls' in a pot. Use it massed along a walkway or in a woodland setting.
