This species produces erects stems of bronzy green leaves and greenish yellow bracts in early summer. In autumn, its leaves turn shades of red, orange, and gold.
 Noteworthy characteristics: This herbaceous species is well suited to a mixed border or to naturalizing. Self-sows regularly. Milky sap may cause irritation to skin and severe discomfort if ingested.
 Care: Prefers moist, humus-rich soil in dappled shade, but will tolerate full sun and drier soils.
 Propagation: Start seed when ripe or in spring; divide plants in early spring.
