Author Pamela Harper talks about how to get the most from woody plants introduction by Janet Jemmott; interview by Colleen Fitzpatrick Pamela Harper -- author of a number of books, including Designing with Perennials, and winner of awards from the Garden Writer's Association of America and recipient of the Horticultural Writing Award of the American Horticultural Society -- is a revered figure in the gardening world. Her first book was published in 1972. Transplanted in 1968 from her native ground in England, she continues to grace the horticultural world with her words, her photographs, and her garden. Harper may be best known for her expertise with perennials, but in this interview, she explains how regional differences have influenced her choice of plants, including a greater reliance on the colors of foliage, bark, and berries of woody species.
