In 2005, Fine Gardening challenged its readers to create container plantings without the benefit of flowers in the fourth annual Container Design Challenge. The winner and finalists, featured in this article, took the best advantage of the leaf texture, size, and colors of a wide variety of plants to create a stunning array of designs that look good all season long, without the need for heavy-duty maintenance or deadheading.
