There's a Yucca for You
These native plants thrive in sun and partial shade -- even in northern climates
by Tom Peace

Yuccas have the look of many exotic, architectural beauties, yet most of them are native to North America. In this article, garden designer and plantsman Tom Peace explores the world of yuccas, sharing his favorite species and providing their cultural requirements. He debunks the myth that yuccas are suited only to hot, dry places; many of these woody lilies thrive in partial shade, and all will grow in good garden soil. Yuccas are at home in xeric landscapes, mixed borders, rock gardens, herb gardens, and grassy meadows. They blend beautifully with traditional perennials and with other architectural and exotic-looking plants.
