Soil texture, which refers to the proportion of sand, silt, and clay in a soil, has a far-reaching impact on various soil qualities. It determines how readily the soil holds onto air, water, and nutrients. Texture also has numerous indirect effects on soil humus, soil temperature, and soil microorganisms.
