Fabric Spree Contest Rules


1. Eligibility:
The Threads Fabric Shopping Spree is open to legal residents of the United States and Canada only, 21 years of age or older. Sweepstakes void in Quebec and where prohibited. Employees of Taunton Press, Inc. and contributing editors (and their dependents and immediate household members) are not eligible to participate.
No purchase or Internet access necessary.

2. Drawing:
Winners will be selected in a random drawing held on or about May 15, 2003. Any applicable federal, state, and/or local taxes are the responsibility of the winner. Odds of winning depend on the number of entries received. Total circulation of Threads magazine is 168,000.

3. Notification:
The potential winners must sign and return an Affidavit of Eligibility, publicity release, and Release of Liability within fourteen (14) days of receipt of notification. In the event of non-compliance, alternate winners will be randomly drawn.

4. Prizes:

One First Prize
One first-prize winner will be selected. First-Prize Winner: The first-prize winner will receive a trip to Threads magazine, Newtown, CT, and New York, NY, for 3 days and 2 nights and a $1,000 stipend to be spent in fabric and sewing stores visited in the shopping spree. Visit includes a tour of Threads, a 1-1/2 hour sewing class, and a trip to the NYC fabric shops with a member of Threads' staff. Prize includes economy-class roundtrip airfare, 2 nights double-room accommodations at hotel in CT or NYC, and meals. Ground transportation will be reimbursed up to a total of $200. Prize will be valid until December 31, 2003. Threads magazine will book all travel accommodations and will require 8 weeks advance notification to make the necessary arrangements. Estimated retail value of First Prize: $2,300. In the event the first-prize winner is unable or chooses not to travel, the substitution will consist solely of a $1,000 gift certificate at a local fabric store of his or her choice. The travel portion of the prize will be forfeited.

Three Second Prizes
$100 gift certificates from The Taunton Press.

Five Third Prizes
1-year subscription to Threads magazine.
No substitution, transfer, or cash equivalent for prizes.

5. General Conditions:
All federal, state, and local laws and regulations are applicable. All taxes (including, but not limited to, income taxes) and travel requirements, including but not limited to, passports, are the sole responsibility of winners. Prize winners may be required to send a copy of their passport, driver's license or birth certificate as proof of age. Non-compliance may result in disqualification, and an alternate winner may be chosen. Return of prize notification, Affidavit/Release as undeliverable will result in disqualification, and an alternate winner may be selected. Entry and/or acceptance of prize(s) constitutes permission for the Sponsor and Sweepstakes Administrator and their agencies to use the winner's name, address (city and state) and/or likeness for advertising and trade purposes without further compensation, worldwide and in perpetuity, in any and all forms of media, now known and hereafter devised, including without limitation online, unless prohibited by law. All entrants agree to comply with these Official Rules. Any person attempting to defraud or in any way tamper with this Sweepstakes and any person who does not comply with these Official Rules, will be ineligible for prizes and may be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. THE CONNECTICUT COURTS (STATE AND FEDERAL) SHALL HAVE SOLE JURISDICTION OF ANY CONTROVERSIES REGARDING THE SWEEPSTAKES AND THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT SHALL GOVERN THE SWEEPSTAKES. EACH ENTRANT WAIVES ANY AND ALL OBJECTIONS TO JURISDICTION AND VENUE IN THOSE COURTS AND HEREBY SUBMITS TO THE JURISDICTION OF THOSE COURTS. If, for any reason, the Sweepstakes is not capable of running as originally planned, such as tampering or infection by computer virus, Sponsor at its sole discretion, reserves the right to cancel the Sweepstakes, without liability. Void where prohibited, restricted or taxed by law.

6. Disclaimers:
Entrants agree that Sweepstakes Entities shall not be liable for losses or injuries of any kind resulting from acceptance/possession and/or use/misuse of prize(s), participation in Sweepstakes, or any technical malfunctions of the telephone network and/or transmission line, computer online system, computer dating mechanism, computer equipment, hardware, software, or any combination thereof, or any entries that are late (including delayed data transmissions), tampered with, garbled, incomplete, misdirected, lost, mutilated, delayed, corrupted, mechanically duplicated, or otherwise not in compliance with these Official Rules. Entrants also agree that the Sweepstakes Entities are not responsible or liable for any injury or damage to an entrant's or third person's computer related to or resulting from Sweepstakes and its prizes. The Sweepstakes Entities are not liable for damage to a user's computer system in any way due to an entrant's participation in the Sweepstakes or downloading any information in connection with the Sweepstakes, including without limitation any server failure, lost, delayed or corrupted data or other malfunction. The Sponsor reserves the right to modify or cancel the Sweepstakes in the event that it becomes technically corrupted. A drawing will be held from the entries received.

7. Winners' List:
